One of the most common issues that can afflict your gutters is rust. It is the result of a chemical reaction between iron and oxygen coming in contact with moisture over time.
Usually, the water caused by rain will flow out of the gutters and the moisture will dry when the sun comes out. However, issues with the gutters (such as a clog, insufficient slope, or poor installation) can cause the water to pool up inside. This prolonged exposure, combined with aging gutters, can cause rust.
Over time, this rust can eat holes right though the gutters, leading to costly repairs.
